Journal Topics - December 2019
Topics in the December 2019 Issue:
The latest issue of the Journal contains contribution from four authors – Keith Klugman (sterling work in providing no less than three in-depth articles!), Peter Whitmore, Roger Porter and Simon Solomon.
Charles Davidson Bell and the Cape Triangulars examines the work of the man who created the initial design of the Cape Triangulars. He was also responsible for the first design of the CGH rectangulars. Not only was he an accomplished artist but he also enjoyed a life of exploration in Southern Africa, leaving his name to at least two of the places that he visited.
Keith Klugman has provided us with three detailed articles on Natal:
Additional Durban Ship Letter Markings in the Past Decade, which updates an earlier article prepared by 10 years ago for the South African Philatelist, Record realizations for Natal at Corinphila Besançon Auction (to which I have added 3 items which came my way) and Census of the use of 1869 Natal provisional “Postage” overprints to Southern African destinations outside of Natal and Zululand, this being the second article in the series.
Roger Porter, whose delight in the discovery is evidenced by the exclamation mark in his ‘POA 96 COMES TO LIGHT!, provides an update to the previous in-depth study.
Peter Whitmore provides another of his authoritative articles, this one being The Eshowe Zululand single circle canceller: the longest surviving Zululand postmark.
