Topics in the June 2021 Issue
We haven’t had much on the Cape Edwardians for some time, so the last 3 months have been a good opportunity for me to work through my collection as well as referring to a number of important auctions, one of which took place recently (Corinphila) and another (Spink) in 2007.
Other topics on the Cape of Good Hope include: The Mail Cart, Parcel and Luggage Labels, Forgeries and an Update on the Table Mountain Issue and For the Table Mountain issue, Argyll Etkin’s March 2021 auction provided the missing pieces which complete the story of how this enigmatic stamp came into being.
For Natal, the emphasis has swung around to the Postal Stationery Wrappers and their occurrence on the internet. This is a companion to the article that John Courtis prepared for the March 2021 issue and provides some unique insights into the survival rate and destinations, inter alia, of the Queen Victorian and Edwardian wrappers. Natal Parcel Labels and Forgeries also get coverage in two other articles.
In the case of Zululand, a double article appears – double in the sense that the subject is a doubled printing which caused a great deal of controversy 11 years ago, when it was first identified and described as a likely forgery, and double because I’ve republished both that article and prepared an updated one, referencing some excellent research that was done recently by Phillip Kinns and Chris Palmer.
